CREATING YOUR NEW GARDEN

Every garden design is unique and requires time to fully understand your needs.

 

The design and project management process has six key stages and Cristina Bergamin Garden Design  lead and manage all aspects of the process for you, from initial consultation to garden build and planting.

On-site consultation

At our first meeting we will walk around the garden and have an informal chat to explore your aspirations, ideas, taste and requirements for your outside space. Should you wish to proceed with a new design, more in-depth discussions will follow about your intended use of the garden, any preferred style, your budget and any specific needs that you have.

These will form the basis of the design brief.

Site survey and analysis

A survey is then undertaken to establish accurate garden dimensions, level changes, key features and existing plants. For extensive plots with very uneven levels, it may be necessary to involve a land surveyor. This data is used to create a scaled plan of your garden. Using a site inventory checklist, a factual assessment of the site condition and the surrounding environment is carried out, including an analysis of soil structure and pH.

The design concept

You will be presented with a site survey drawn to scale, an initial design concept and mood boards. Materials and planting will reflect your personal requirements for the garden and the specific site conditions. We will discuss hard landscaping materials, planting proposals and garden maintenance as well as any thoughts you have on the design concept.

The master plan

Once we have agreed all the details of the new design, a computer-generated master plan, with landscaping and planting, will be drawn to scale. Landscaping plans will include all materials specifications and quantities necessary for contractors to provide accurate quotes to build the garden. Planting plans will show the planting scheme, plant list and quantities required.

Costing your new garden

Hard landscaping: I will obtain quotes from trusted landscapers with whom we have built strong working relationships, selecting the most appropriate partners for a site visit, where we will also clarify any queries. Contractor selection will be discussed with you in the context of total costs quoted.

 

Planting: to ensure that the best specimens are sourced, I will personally select all trees and plants from reputable trade nurseries to determine these costs.

Project management

Regular supervision of landscaping works will be carried out to ensure that the integrity of the design is maintained and that all elements are laid out in accordance with the approved master plan. There will be a constant focus on quality assurance and attention to detail to ensure that your new garden is realised to your complete satisfaction.
